The Turd Nerds is the integrative gastroenterology podcast. We are a team of three doctors (and friends) with a unique love for digestive diseases. Dr. Ilana Gurevich
ND, LAc, MSOM
Dr. Ilana Gurevich is a naturopathic digestive disease expert and founder of Open Wellness PDX in Portland, Oregon. With over 15 years of experience, she specializes in holistic approaches to restore the body's natural healing ability, particularly when traditional methods have failed.
Dr. Gurevich offers quality treatment options for a range of gastrointestinal issues, including IBS, GERD, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. She develops custom, whole-person treatment plans, working closely with patients who play an active role in their health care.
A graduate of the National University of Natural Medicine, Dr. Gurevich is a board-certified naturopathic physician and licensed acupuncturist. Her expertise encompasses Western and Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, and nutrition education.


Dr. Rebecca Sand
ND, LAc, MSOM
Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. She completed post-graduate residency training in integrative gastroenterology, fertility, and women's health in Portland, Oregon.
Her additional training includes visceral manipulation, craniosacral therapy, Maya abdominal therapy, and Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Before medical school, Dr. Sand spent seven years in research, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in genetics, human development, and Mandarin from the University of Minnesota. Her research covered heart stent coatings, novel treatments for blood-based cancers, HIV therapies, and vaccine development. She has also studied under traditional healers in Tibet, China, India, and Polynesia to integrate ancient healing wisdom into modern care.
Personally, Dr. Sand understands the challenges of chronic disease and the frustration of not being heard by doctors, having experienced undiagnosed PCOS and digestive issues herself. She is committed to improving this experience for her patients.Outside the clinic, Dr. Sand enjoys crosswords, gardening, traveling, and petting dogs. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her partner and daughter.
Dr. Ami Kapadia
MD, ABFM, ABIHM
Completed medical school at Sidney Kimmel Medical College and her family medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Since completing her training, she has worked in various settings over the past 15 years including working with veterans at various VA hospitals in the US, seeing patients in an urgent care setting, and practicing lifestyle medicine in private practice. She has pursued training in integrative, holistic and environmental medicine, while also striving to keep up to date on the best that western allopathic medicine has to offer. She is certified by the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine and has completed Whole Health Training through the VA.
